If your external hard drive is more than 2TB it is probably formatted in GPT instead of standard MBR, which cannot be read by 32bit Operating Systems such as WIndows XP. Like I can find the drive in disk management and device manager but cannot create a new path or assign a letter to the drive to open it, unless I want have a peek here Windows says the drivers are up to date.

However, using this method you might try moving data in LINUX first or even just "mounting" the drive. Saved my life. Reply julie January 25, 2017 at 6:57 am i have followed all the instructions and see my ATA drive in devmng only but it does not show partitions. I have a 2TB Seagate USB drive. I HAVE LOOKED ALL OVER AND THIS WAS SO SIMPLE...! Two partitions will be necessary because of the MBR limitation.
