DVD Drive Not Refreshing When New Disk Inserted.

I also have this problem when I swicth floppy disk. I dont have Nero so i know its not software issue. When I place the first volume in the drive it reads is fine as containing the file archive01.rar. In effect the computer seems to copy the contents of the drive to some cache which cannot be cleared without a reboot - so i can insert a CD, eject it as the system would still believe that the same cd was still in the drive.

Yet, the new drive fails in a similar way to the old drive that I just replaced. The old drive was having problems with recognising discs, much as elunow describes, but it also had problems playing DVDs as well - it looked like buffering problems.

I have 2 internal drives and one external (all different manufacturers). As though it had cached it for some reason. Check out the forums and get free advice from the experts. I got a new PC last year running Vista.
